Andy is getting his casts off. Thankfully, Leslie's boobs are alive to see it... and see Andy fall flat on his face as soon as he tries to stand. Muscular atrophy for the win! This was an interesting departure for the season finale, as it's the only episode that has taken place mostly outside of the government setting. It was nice to see the group just out for a night of fun. Of course things don't always go as planned.

Parks And Recreation Coming Back Next Year!

At NBC's Upfront presentation, which they call "Infront" they let us know that Parks and Recreation is coming back in the 2009/2010 season!

"NBC unveiled today a strong lineup of broad and diverse quality programming for the 2009-2010 television season announcing the pickups of six new series featuring four new dramas including “Trauma,” “Parenthood,” “Mercy” and the event series “Day One,” as well as two new comedies including “Community” and “100 Questions.”

Four returning series pickups were also announced today including “Heroes,” “Southland,” “Parks and Recreation” and the addition of six new episodes of “Saturday Night Live Weekend Update Thursday” skewering today’s top stories in live half-hour primetime shows."

So we're falling into a little pattern here, each new episode beginning with a snippet of life in Leslie Knope's little corner of Pawnee. Today Leslie is on a nature hike, a city-run pre-teen program, which used to be a teen program until one of the teenage girls got pregnant. Well, you know what they say about there not being much to do in small towns...

Leslie, true to form, does something almost anyone with three brain cells wouldn't, and chows down on a plant she's unfamiliar with, which turns out to be bitter and causes her tongue to swell. Thus endeth the hike.

The documentary cameras follow Leslie Knope (Amy Poehler) a mid-level bureaucrat in the Parks and Recreation Department of Pawnee, Indiana. In an attempt to beautify her town Leslie takes on what should be a fairly simple project: help local nurse Ann Perkins (Rashida Jones) turn an abandoned construction pit into a community park. Leslie is alternately helped and undermined by her colleague, Tom Haverford (Aziz Ansari), who cheerfully exploits his government position for personal gain. She is also thwarted by her boss Ron Swanson (Nick Offerman) who is philosophically opposed to government in any form. Helping Leslie and Ann navigate the Pawnee bureaucracy is charismatic city planner Mark Brendanawicz (Paul Schneider), whose outlook has been soured by 15 years of public service. If they can pull it off, Leslie hopes that she also will have inspired her uninterested college intern April (Aubrey Plaza) and April’s whole generation – all the while moving one step closer to her ultimate goal: becoming the first female president of the United States.

"Jones admits that we'll notice some similarities to The Office, particularly in the way the series is filmed. "What's similar about it is the documentary style. That, and the interviews and stuff. You get the sense of two camera crews. There's one that's following me and my cause, and one following Amy and her rise through government."

"Joining the cast are indie film star Paul Schneider -pictured- ("Lars and the Real Girl"), Chris Pratt ("Everwood") and Nick Offerman (Comedy Central's "American Body Show").

According to Zap2it, Schneider will play Mark, a colleague and unrequited love interest of the clueless Knope. They got together once, and Leslie's never forgotten it. Unfortunately for her, Mark's interested in Leslie's friend Ann (Jones), whose loser musican boyfriend will be played by Pratt. Can we say Jim and Pam redux? Offerman has been cast as Rob, a superior of Knope's."

The new half-hour comedy will examine the mundane but necessary ways that people interact with their government, and ask why it's frequently so complicated -- as everyone knows from standing in line at the DMV, applying for home construction permits, or trying to get the city to fix a pothole.

The documentary cameras follow Leslie Knope (Amy Poehler, NBC’s "Saturday Night Live," "Baby Mama") a mid-level bureaucrat in the Parks and Recreation Department of Pawnee, Indiana. In an attempt to beautify her town -- and advance her career -- Leslie takes on what should be a fairly simple project: help local nurse Ann Logan (Rashida Jones, NBC’s "The Office," "Unhitched") turn an abandoned construction pit into a community park. Opposing them are defensive bureaucrats, selfish neighbors, real estate developers, and single-issue fanatics -- whose weapons are lawsuits, the jumble of city codes, and the very democratic process that Leslie loves so much.

Aubrey Plaza Joins Cast

Upright Citizens Brigade player Aubrey Plaza (pictured) has landed a co-starring role on UCB alumna Amy Poehler's upcoming NBC comedy series.

The untitled project, from "The Office" masterminds Greg Daniels and Mike Schur, is set in the office of Amy (Poehler), deputy chairman of the department of parks and recreations in Pawnee, Ind. Plaza will play April, an intern who shadows her.

OfficeTally broke the news with a quote from Michael Schur (writer for the new show) that Rashida is indeed on board and will be playing a nurse named Ann - so, can we officially say this isn't an Office spin-off now?

"TVWeek: What’s happening with “The Office” spinoff and Amy Poehler?
Mr. Silverman: So here’s where we’re at. Obviously, Amy is somebody that shows up once in a blue moon, you know what I mean? And it’s so perfect coming out of the NBC family, but also in the great tradition of what Tina Fey is, what Steve Carrell is, what Jason Lee is, what Alec Baldwin is—these kind of movie/TV stars. We have these performers who hit beyond the medium, and who operate in a kind of cultural milieu, not just in a performance milieu. Mike Schur and Greg Daniels had a relationship with her and Mike actually had a really strong one from his work with Will Arnett when Mike was on “Arrested Development,” and then through his relationship with Amy directly when he was on “Saturday Night Live.” The opportunity to grab her was so exciting. Now the other side of it is that she’s pregnant. So you know the timing of when we can bring her show to air may not fall into the same timing we were trying to hit for a spinoff. (Editor’s note: NBC had planned to premiere an “Office” spinoff after the Super Bowl in February.) So that’s kind of opened up some timing questions, because obviously you wait for Amy to have her baby.

TVWeek: So you’re not doing a spinoff of “The Office”?
Mr. Silverman: No—we’re also going to be pursuing an “Office” spinoff as well, but right now, for the moment, Greg and Mike are focused on this show, which is more in the kind of style of “The Office,” but it’s not like the Jeffersons appeared in “All in the Family.” Do you know what I mean? Her character—which is something we’re still working on and developing—but you get it."
